Why it matters

CBM drives your freight cost

Less-than-container-load (LCL) shipments are priced by volume, not weight — until the cargo is dense enough to hit a weight break. Know your CBM before you negotiate.

iChargeable volume

Carriers compare your CBM against a weight-to-volume ratio (often 1:167 for sea). The higher of the two becomes the chargeable amount.

iContainer planning

A 20ft box holds about 33 m³ and a 40ft about 67 m³. Divide by your per-carton volume to see how many fit before you book.

iQuote accuracy

Suppliers quote ex-works or FOB; the overseas leg is yours. An accurate CBM means the quote you get is the price you pay.
